THE CONCRETE PRODUCT

VERSATILE & TRULY UNIQUE

WHY CONCRETE?

Concrete is the single most utilised building material in the world. Designers, architects and builders have reimagined its use beyond strictly industrial purposes and we now see concrete in residential and commercial applications both in interior and outdoor spaces. It's versatility is exceptional, allowing for its purpose as bench tops, splash backs, dining and occasional furniture, fire hearths and surrounds, wall panels, outdoor entertainment pieces, garden planters, steps and treads, flooring and tiles, artistic installations and an endless range of functional and decorative homewares. The unique appearance of concrete gives it special appeal - aesthetic variations of colour, pattern and texture that ensure each piece is truly unique.

fINISHES & SEALS

At Baseline we offer varying levels of polish finish to create a truly unique piece. A lighter polish will show a subtle motley variation while a cut back grind and polish can expose the aggregate. We can also provide different seals to your product. A matte style seal will retain the concretes naturally occurring low sheen finish and throw a more organic look while a gloss style seal will provide a shiny, reflective surface.

CONCRETE CARE

To ensure your custom concrete endures over time, we recommend following specific cleaning and care guidelines to ensure it remains looking its best. Typically light soap based solvents are sufficient for cleaning and harsh abrasives should be avoided. While sealer is designed to protect the porous nature of concrete, spills should be cleaned promptly. Common use should not result in cracks or chips however like all stone based materials, corners in particular can be vulnerable to blunt force and hairline cracks can appear in some areas. The sealed concrete product is suitable for food preparation and presentation however we do not recommend cutting directly on the surface and very hot objects should be placed on a trivet for protection. Please note that sealant can be reapplied if necessary. Baseline provides full care guidelines on request and with all our finished pieces.

IS CONCRETE SUSTAINABLE?

Concrete is an important contributor to sustainable development and is environmentally friendly in all stages of its life span. It’s key attributes include:

RESOURCE EFFICIENCY

The predominant raw material for the cement in concrete is limestone, the most abundant mineral on earth. Concrete can also be made from by-products.

DURABILITY

Concrete builds durable, long-lasting structures with life spans double or triple those of other common building materials.

THERMAL MASS

Homes built with concrete walls, foundations, and floors are highly energy efficient because they take advantage of concretes inherent thermal massor ability to absorb and retain heat.

REFLECTIVITY

Light-colored concrete absorbs less heat and reflect more solar radiation than dark-colorer materials.

FIRE RESISTANCE

Concrete is non-combustible and has excellent fire resistance properties.

AIR QUALITY

Use of concrete materials can improve indoor air quality as it replaces the need for other materials like carpet and paints.
